The Yukon Legislative Assembly’s all-party Special Committee on Electoral Reform is continuing its examination of electoral reform.
Hearing with Fair Vote Yukon April 22, 2022
As part of its study of potential changes to the voting system, the committee will be holding another virtual public hearing on Friday, April 22, 2022 at 2:00 p.m.
Representatives from Fair Vote Yukon will be appearing as witnesses.
Members of the public may watch the hearing live through a link on the committee’s webpage or on the Legislative Assembly’s Facebook page. The hearing will also be broadcast live on 93.5 FM.
Previously, from January 21 to 31, and on March 25, 2022 the committee held 13 video conference hearings with subject matter experts. Transcripts and recordings of those hearings are available on the committee’s webpage.
Survey closing April 10, 2022
The committee launched a public survey on electoral reform on February 15, 2022. The Yukon Bureau of Statistics will be closing the survey at 11:59 p.m. on Sunday, April 10, 2022.
The survey is open to all Yukoners aged 16 years or older. Any eligible individuals who have not received an invitation for the survey should contact the Bureau by email ybs.operations@yukon.ca or by phone 1-866-527-8266 (toll-free within Yukon).
The committee would like to encourage the public to complete the survey to help inform the committee’s deliberations on democracy in the territory.
Additional input from Yukoners
In addition to the survey, the committee is currently accepting written submissions. Submissions to the committee may be sent to SCER@yukon.ca. Public submissions received to date are available on the committee’s webpage.
The committee is also planning on holding public hearings in Yukon communities later this year.
The committee must complete its work and report its findings and recommendations by the 2022 Fall Sitting of the Legislative Assembly.
