NEWS RELEASE

Thursday, June 13, 2019

Today we celebrate Yukon’s 121st birthday. 121 years ago today the Yukon Territory came into being within Canada on June 13, 1898. 100 years after that date, the Yukon Day Act was passed by a special Legislative Assembly held in Dawson City that caused June 13 every year to be known as “Yukon Day”.

The Yukon Day Act states that Yukon Day shall be a day on which the citizens of Yukon are encouraged to reflect on the history and heritage of their land and its people and to celebrate the lives, traditions, and cultures of all Yukoners past and present.

The Speaker of the Yukon Legislative Assembly the Honourable Nils Clarke would like to express a heartfelt happy Yukon Day to all Yukoners. May your day be filled with fond memories of days gone by and the hope of a bright future for our Territory.

Hon. Nils Clarke, Speaker
