Speaker's Welcome

Speaker Jeremy HarperWelcome to the Yukon Legislative Assembly’s website. The website is maintained by the Legislative Assembly Office and is continually evolving to include more information that I hope will be useful to you.

Within the website you will find the debates of the Assembly which can be read, viewed or listened to through the House Business or Legislative Calendar pages. As well, information about your Member of the Legislative Assembly, information about the daily sitting of the Assembly when in session, and information from various Committees of the Assembly is available. Additionally, there are links to resources and other interesting and informative websites.

I was elected to the Yukon Legislative Assembly in the general election on April 12, 2021, as the Member for Mayo-Tatchun. On May 11, 2021, the other MLAs elected me to be their Speaker. I am Yukon's 26th Speaker.

You can find out more about the role of the Speaker at the following link: Information Sheet No. 1. As Speaker, I also chair the Members' Services Board, an all-party committee of the Legislative Assembly and am President of the Yukon Branch of the Commonwealth Parliamentary Association.

I am a citizen of Selkirk First Nation, a member of the Wolf Clan and currently residing in both Carmacks and Pelly Crossing. I have spent my entire life in the Yukon, being born in Whitehorse and raised in Mayo and Pelly Crossing.

My wife, Shari Wrixon, and I enjoy the traditional ways of life handed down to us through our ancestors. We value spending time on the land, hunting, fishing, and caring for our two lovely dogs, Duke and Remie.

Prior to being elected to the Legislative Assembly, I was serving as a Wolf Councillor for Selkirk First Nation leadership, and as a part-time Director on the board for the Selkirk Development Corporation. I was working in Pelly Crossing in the Recreation Department where I coached youth and promoted healthy living.

I hope that you find our website interesting and informative.
