The Hon. Scott Kent was first elected to the Yukon Legislative Assembly in the general election for the 30^th Legislative Assembly on April 17, 2000. He represented the electoral district of Riverside from 2000 to 2002. The Hon. Scott Kent was re-elected in the general election for the 33^rd Legislative Assembly on October 11, 2011 in the electoral district of Riverdale North. He was again elected, this time in the electoral district of Copperbelt South, in the general elections for the 34^th Legislative Assembly on November 7, 2016, the 35^th Legislative Assembly on April 12, 2021, and in the general election for the 36th Legislative Assembly on November 3, 2025.

On November 22, 2025 the Hon. Scott Kent was sworn in as Minister of Education and Minister responsible for the Yukon Housing Corporation.
