Ranj Pillai was first elected to the Yukon Legislative Assembly in the general election for the 34th Legislative Assembly on November 7, 2016. He was re-elected in the general election for the 35th Legislative Assembly on April 12, 2021. The Hon. Ranj Pillai was Minister of Economic Development and Minister responsible for the Yukon Housing Corporation from January 14, 2023 to June 27, 2025. In addition, he was Premier and Minister of the Executive Council Office (which includes aboriginal relations and intergovernmental relations) from May 3, 2021 to January 14, 2023, as well as Minister of Tourism and Culture and Minister responsible for the Yukon Liquor Corporation and the Yukon Lottery Commission. The Hon. Ranj Pillai was first appointed to the Executive Council of Yukon (Cabinet) on December 3, 2016. During the 34th Legislative Assembly he served as Deputy Premier, Minister of Energy, Mines and Resources, Minister of Economic Development, and Minister responsible for the Yukon Development Corporation and the Yukon Energy Corporation. The Hon. Ranj Pillai was appointed a member of the Standing Committee on Appointments to Major Government Boards and Committees by Order of the House on May 17, 2021. His appointment to the committee was rescinded by the Legislative Assembly on October 19, 2023. |
