Brad Cathers a été élu pour la première fois lors des élections générales de la 31e Assemblée législative du Yukon, tenues le 4 novembre 2002. Il a été réélu le 10 octobre 2006 aux élections générales de la 32e Assemblée législative, puis à celles de la 33e Assemblée législative, le 11 octobre 2011, pour ensuite être élu de nouveau le 7 novembre 2016 aux élections générales de la 34e Assemblée législative, puis le 12 avril 2021 aux élections de la 35e Assemblée législative.

Le 6 mai 2021, il a été annoncé que Brad Cathers serait le porte-parole du Parti du Yukon pour les ministères de la Santé et des Affaires sociales, de la Justice, des Finances et de l’Agriculture.

Brad Cathers a été assermenté à titre de membre du Conseil des ministres le 12 décembre 2005. Il a été assermenté de nouveau le 28 octobre 2006, puis le 5 novembre 2011.

Ses différents mandats l’ont amené à occuper les postes suivants : ministre de la Santé et des Affaires sociales; ministre de l’Énergie, des Mines et des Ressources; ministre des Services aux collectivités; ministre responsable de la Société d’habitation du Yukon; ministre responsable de la Commission de la santé et de la sécurité au travail du Yukon; ministre responsable de la Société des alcools (y compris de la Commission des loteries du Yukon); ministre de la Justice; et ministre responsable de la Société de développement du Yukon et de la Société d’énergie du Yukon.

Brad Cathers a été leader parlementaire du gouvernement du 12 décembre 2005 au 28 août 2009, du 5 novembre 2011 au 16 janvier 2015, puis du 10 mai 2016 jusqu’à la dissolution de la 33e Assemblée législative. Il a également été leader parlementaire adjoint du 17 janvier 2015 au 9 mai 2016.

Le 13 mai 2021, Brad Cathers a été nommé par ordre de la Chambre à la Commission des services aux députés. En outre, le 17 mai 2021, il a été nommé par ordre de la Chambre au Comité permanent des règlements, des élections et des privilèges et au Comité permanent des textes réglementaires. Il est également vice-président du Comité spécial sur la réforme électorale depuis le 26 mai 2021. Il est également vice-président du Comité spécial sur la réforme électorale depuis le 26 mai 2021.

Brad Cathers a siégé à plusieurs comités permanents, notamment à la Commission des services aux députés, au Comité permanent des nominations aux principaux comités et commissions du gouvernement, au Comité permanent des règlements, des élections et des privilèges, ainsi qu’au Comité permanent des comptes publics. Au cours de la 34e Assemblée législative, il a été membre du Comité spécial sur laLoi sur les mesures civiles d’urgence. Au cours de la 32e Assemblée législative, il a également été membre du Comité spécial de la loi antitabac (à titre de président) et du Comité spécial sur le fonctionnement et la sécurité d’utilisation des véhicules hors route.

Brad Cathers has served on several standing committees, including the Members’ Services Board, the Standing Committee on Appointments to Major Government Boards and Committees, the Standing Committee on Rules, Elections and Privileges, and the Standing Committee on Public Accounts. During the 35th Legislative Assembly, he served as a member of the Members’ Services Board, the Standing Committee on Rules, Elections and Privileges, and the Standing Committee on Statutory Instruments. He was also Vice-Chair of the Special Committee on Electoral Reform, to which he was appointed on May 26, 2021.
