Dan Cable, Clerk of the Yukon Legislative Assembly, will end his 7-year tenure as chief permanent officer of the Assembly on June 19, 2026.
The Clerk is responsible for all matters pertaining to managing the Assembly’s operations, and is its principal authority on rules, practices, privileges, and parliamentary procedure. Pursuant to the Public Service Act, the position of Clerk is classified at the level of a deputy head.
Dan Cable started with the Yukon Legislative Assembly on April 1, 2019. In his time as Clerk, he has served three assemblies of MLAs and witnessed many unprecedented procedural events in the Chamber. He was notably in charge of ensuring the Assembly could continue to fulfill its legislative functions during the COVID-19 pandemic and he recently oversaw the transition to an enlarged number of elected seats with a majority of new MLAs.
Dan Cable’s connections to public service and the Legislative Assembly run deep. Prior to becoming Clerk, he spent 17 years working for the Department of Justice, serving as Director of Policy and Communications for most of his time there. Jack Cable, Dan’s father, and Dan’s sister, Sue Edelman, were both elected Members of the Legislative Assembly. Dan experienced the partisan side of politics in Yukon, working in the Cabinet office, long before taking on the neutral black robes of the Clerk.
“Dan Cable has been a source of valuable advice to me in my time as a Member of the Assembly. I truly appreciated his extensive knowledge of procedural matters and his willingness to share his expertise. I speak for all MLAs when I say that his contributions to the territory are appreciated and he will be missed. Dan has been an absolute pleasure to work with. He is a genuinely wonderful person and I wish him all the very best in his next chapter!”
Hon. Yvonne Clarke, Speaker, Yukon Legislative Assembly
Allison Lloyd will replace Dan Cable as Clerk of the Legislative Assembly after his retirement. Her appointment, effective June 20, 2026, was made on the recommendation of the Members’ Services Board, an all-party committee of the Legislative Assembly.
Allison Lloyd has over 20 years of experience working in a parliamentary setting. She joined the Yukon Legislative Assembly Office in 2013 as Clerk of Committees, having been previously working for the Senate of Canada. Since 2024, she has served as Deputy Clerk.
“I am pleased that Allison Lloyd has agreed to take on the position of Clerk of the Legislative Assembly. I have had the privilege of working with Allison since 2021, and throughout that time I have been consistently impressed by her dedication, sound judgment, and unwavering professionalism. She is highly respected by Members and staff alike. She has been an invaluable member of the Assembly's leadership team, and I am confident that she will serve Yukoners and this institution with distinction as Clerk."
Hon. Yvonne Clarke, Speaker, Yukon Legislative Assembly
Since the advent of party politics and responsible government in Yukon, only two individuals filled the role of Clerk prior to Dan Cable. Allison Lloyd is the first woman appointed in this position.
