The Speaker of the Yukon Legislative Assembly, the Hon. Yvonne Clarke, is pleased to announce the creation of the Yukon Legislative Assembly Activity and Colouring Book.
This is a new initiative to introduce young Yukoners to the history, significance, and function of the Legislative Assembly in a fun and engaging way. As a proud parent and a longtime advocate for education in the territory, Speaker Clarke appreciates the value of accessible learning tools. She hopes this project will help to build early awareness and understanding of the Legislative Assembly among Yukon's youngest residents, giving them a foundation for community involvement as they grow.
To mark the launch of the activity book, local daycares and summer camps were invited to bring children to visit the Chamber. The Speaker had the opportunity to personally guide participants through the activity book, providing explanations about her role and the purpose of the Legislative Assembly. The experience was hands-on and interactive, including a miniaturized Speaker’s procession and lively mock debate, leaving a lasting impression on the young visitors aged three to twelve.
The design and all the illustrations for the activity book were created by Mildred Peñaranda, owner of the creative studio Mil & Co.
“It has been a pleasure to work with Mildred Peñaranda on this project and support a local entrepreneur, and fellow immigrant mother, as she builds her own practice in the Yukon. I know she shares my hope that this activity book will become a resource Yukon students enjoy for years to come.”
Hon. Yvonne Clarke, Speaker
