2026 Fall Sitting Scheduling Information

You may find the following information about the scheduling of the 2026 Fall Sitting of the First Session of the 36th Legislative Assembly useful.

Start Date

The 2026 Fall Sitting will commence at 1:00 p.m. on Monday, October 5.
Standing Order 75(10) states that “the Fall Sitting shall commence the first week of October.” On August 11, 2026, pursuant to Standing Order 73, the Premier advised the Speaker to give notice of the date on which the House will meet.

Deadline to Introduce Government Bills

All government bills to be dealt with during the 2026 Fall Sitting must receive First Reading by Tuesday, October 13, the fifth sitting day, pursuant to Standing Order 74.

Length of Sitting

After all government bills are introduced, Standing Order 75 requires that the House Leaders meet to determine the maximum number of sitting days for the Sitting and report to the Assembly by Thursday, October 15, the seventh sitting day.
Standing Order 75(1) states that “There shall be a maximum of 60 sitting days per calendar year.” The 2026 Spring Sitting was 29 days which leaves a maximum length of 31 sitting days for the Fall Sitting.
The Legislative Assembly will not sit on holidays, including Thanksgiving (Monday, October 12) and Remembrance Day (Wednesday, November 11). The House may, by adopting a motion, decide to not to sit on a day when it would otherwise normally meet, such as Thursday, November 12, and that may alter the potential final day of the Sitting.

The following are potential dates on which the House could rise:

  • A 20-day Sitting, the shortest permitted under Standing Order 75(2), would end on Monday, November 9.
  • A 30-day Sitting, the length determined by Standing Order 75(3) in the event that there is no agreement between the House Leaders, would end on Thursday, November 26 (or November 30 if no sitting on the 12th).
  • A 31-day Sitting, the longest possible under Standing Order 75(1), would end on Monday, November 30 (or December 1 if no sitting on November 12).
