The Yukon Legislative Assembly’s Standing Committee on Public Accounts will be holding a public hearing on the topic of Yukon housing on Tuesday, January 31, 2023, from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. and 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m.
The subject of the hearing will be a report of the Office of the Auditor General of Canada entitled Report of the Auditor General of Canada to the Yukon Legislative Assembly – Yukon Housing – Independent Auditor’s Report 2022. This report was released on May 25, 2022 and can be accessed at https://www.oag-bvg.gc.ca/internet/English/yuk_202205_e_44074.html. Officials from the Office of the Auditor General of Canada, the Yukon Housing Corporation and the Department of Health and Social Services will be appearing as witnesses at the hearing.
The Auditor General’s report contains recommendations for improving how the Government of Yukon responds to vulnerable Yukoners' housing needs. The Public Accounts Committee has received submissions from the Yukon Housing Corporation, the Department of Health and Social Services, and several community organizations, regarding progress made since the release of the report and plans to address the issues highlighted by the audit.
The public hearing will be held in the Yukon Legislative Assembly Chamber and will be broadcast live on 93.5 FM.
